The same way we consider Alberto Santos Dumont “the father of Aviation”,  Roberto Landell de Moura is “the father of Telecommunication”.

Both are Brazilian.

You certainly know that Santos Dumont is the father of aviation. But did you not know that the radio was invented by a Brazilian scientist priest,  Roberto Landell de Moura, even before Marconi? Besides the radio, Landell de Moura also projected the television in the beginning of the XX century, many years before this invention was announced to the world. He patented inventions in Brazil, as well as in the United States, but for some sequence of unfortunate facts, he did never obtain support to develop his devices. He was misunderstood, called insane and accused to have a deal with the devil. Landell de Moura didn´t gain recognition at his time and, worse than that, remains quite unknown nowadays, although everything is properly proved and set by means of documentation. Historically, Brazil has entered the Era of Radio importing technology.

To correct this historical mistake, and at the same time to valorize national science, the Brazilian Government should officially recognize Landell de Moura as a pioneer in developing telecommunication devices (precursory projects of the radio, television and teleimpressors, besides his recommendations for the use of short waves, laser and optical fibres).
